Harpist for Cocktail Hour

I am seriously considering hiring a harpist for our cocktail hour and possibly the ceremony portion as well. It's not a necessity, but it might be a nice change of pace from the typical steel-band or pianist. Has anyone ever been to a wedding that had a harpist play during the ceremony and/or cocktail hour? Suggestions/thoughts? I spoke to Janet King and Miriam Schilling and a few bands that offered quotes for harpists as well... definitely not a cheap add-on, but I have a good feeling it will be well-worth the splurge.

Speaking of splurges, I feel like there are so many things that can be considered a worthy splurge for weddings. Everything in the wedding world is marked-up and we are already required to pay such a big premium for anything wedding-related... so how do people choose what is splurge-worthy and not so splurge-worthy? I suppose everything is a personal choice... but how and why are some things considered splurge-worthy?

Being a budget-bride is not easy, but there is really no end to how much you can potentially spend on a wedding. No end...

i had a comment on the harpist. i had a harpist for my wedding ceremony. i think hiring a harpist worked for me because:
    1) we had a very intimate church ceremony (125 guests attended) and the church sanctuary was very small so i didn't want a big band/orchestra nor a commonplace pianist.

    2) hiring a harpist for 2 hours was less expensive than hiring a group of musicians for 6 to 8 hours.

    3) i also had a string quartet for our reception who played for 3 to 4 hours.

my recommendation is to find out the price of hiring a harpist and consider the (realistically the hours) you'll need him/her to play.

it may work out to be less expensive than you think.
