Steak is gooood.

Making decisions has never really been a forte of mine, and I'll admit-- I don't particularly enjoy putting my foot down and sticking by decisions made, especially when I hear grunts and complaints from nearby. Yeah, a bit of a pushover, though I would have never admitted that to anyone before this week. I've always tried to be more of a team-player; I dine where the crowd takes me. Always. This week, one of the elderly ladies in my family decided to be "nice" and share some wedding planning "advice" with me. She suggested that I use a particular korean cusine caterer for our wedding because, "I use them for my son, and my bestfriend use them for her son, and her friend use for her son...." and so on and so forth... Obviously, this is not going to happen, since the MR and I have signed a greater portion of our life savings away for a full french/american-style sit-down dinner for 2oo+ months and months ago. While we are happily SET with this decision, we did expect some of the more traditional korean folks to grumble at us for not catering korean food. So it didn't go over too easy when I let her know that there would be no korean food at our wedding. She stared deep into my eyes as if there was something seriously wrong with me, violently shook her pointer finger and drenched me with the look of death. "Shame on you, what does your MOTHER have to say about this?!" Leave mama out of this, lady! haha. My uncles had to hold her back from stabbing my eyes out. They tried to appease her, "Kids these days do the american thing all the time-- steak is good". ohhh my.
Seriously though, I can't say I was unaffected (obviously, since I'm dedicating a blog entry on the topic). I was very affected and partly surprised at the way her disapproval was expressed, but at the same time, I realized I no longer had a yearning to please anyone at the expense of my (our?) happiness. I have really grown some thick skin since the beginning of this whole thing. The planning process has been hell at times, but it's been a great learning experience. Anyway, I am very happy (and proud) to announce that I can withstand the " stank eye of disapproval " from the Korean moms of the world without needing to hide under a blanket and cry my eyeballs out anymore. Cheers!
